Comprehensive Head and Neck Pathology Expertise
Head and neck pathology encompasses a diverse spectrum of inflammatory, infectious, premalignant, and malignant diseases. Our pathologists evaluate biopsies, excisions, and complex surgical resections involving:
- Oral cavity and oropharynx: inflammatory and reactive lesions, epithelial dysplasia, squamous cell carcinoma, and other benign and malignant neoplasms.
- Larynx and hypopharynx: inflammatory conditions, dysplasia, squamous cell carcinoma, and other neoplastic processes.
- Sinonasal tract: inflammatory and infectious disease, papillomas, and benign and malignant sinonasal tumors.
- Salivary glands: inflammatory and obstructive disorders and a broad spectrum of benign and malignant salivary gland neoplasms.
- Cervical lymph nodes: evaluation of metastatic disease and other diagnostically challenging lesions.
Head and Neck Oncology
Pathologic evaluation plays a critical role in the multidisciplinary management of patients with head and neck cancer.
Depending on the specimen and diagnosis, our reports may include tumor classification, differentiation, depth and extent of invasion, lymphovascular and perineural invasion, surgical margin status, lymph node involvement, extranodal extension, treatment response, and other findings relevant to pathologic staging and treatment planning.
Salivary Gland and Sinonasal Pathology
Salivary gland and sinonasal lesions can present significant diagnostic challenges because many entities share overlapping microscopic features.
Mid-Florida Pathology provides specialized evaluation of these complex lesions, incorporating histomorphology with clinical and radiologic information. When appropriate, immunohistochemistry, molecular pathology, and other ancillary studies may be utilized to refine the differential diagnosis and support accurate classification.
Integrated Diagnostic Approach
Modern head and neck pathology requires careful integration of microscopic findings with clinical history, imaging, immunohistochemistry, molecular diagnostics, and other ancillary studies when appropriate.
Our pathologists use these tools thoughtfully to characterize difficult neoplasms, determine tumor lineage, distinguish primary from metastatic disease, and provide clinically relevant diagnostic information.
Direct Physician Consultation and Clear Reporting
Mid-Florida Pathology’s pathologists are readily accessible to otolaryngologists, head and neck surgeons, oncologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, and other members of the clinical team for case discussions and diagnostic consultation.
Our reports use clear, precise, and clinically familiar terminology, with standardized diagnostic and staging information incorporated when appropriate. Our goal is to provide clinicians with timely, actionable information that supports efficient and informed patient management.
